@Jo: ugh posted before I finished…Thanks for the giveaway and may your cakes continue to be calorie free 🙂
Passionfruit spongecake rules all cakes for me 🙂
Happy Birthday! I’m taking note of the last point in the fine print.
I am a known sweet tooth so choosing a favourite cake is very hard. Can I say anything with cream cheese frosting?
You have my email. Do I still need to add to comment? (Note: this is privacy geek Marijana speaking)
Not entering, ’cause Florida, but only too happy to wish you a most wonderful, healthy, joyful, chock full of readerly delights, b-day. *throwing confetti*
Happy (belated?) birthday! I’m a traditionalist when it comes to cake, all chocolate, all the way. The more chocolate the better, so a nice chocolate mud or even a chocolate mousse cake is the best. Especially because we all know it has no calories 😉
This is a serious topic. I don’t want to hear about cakes that would make do on any day. This is a special cake that just screams out for a celebration like your birthday. One where the French Champagne is chilled and ready to be poured.
You ready….?
First there has to be at least five layers of hazelnut meringue. In between there is vanilla mascapone and cream and pieces of strawberry (cut each strawberry into about quarters, put in pan with a little sugar and a splash of champagne and stir for about 5 mins then cool).
Layer it all together until it’s a mountain of decadant wonder. On the top sensuously smooth on more of the mascapone and cream mixture, scatter strawberries with passionate abandon and shave dark chocolate over the lot.
(excuse me while I have a private moment ….. *whew*).
So Happy Happy Birthday to you!!!!!!! I hope that you had fabulous cake to celebrate! 😉
Happy birthday! I didn’t know that about calories and birthday cake, I thought it only applied to chocolate when you get stuck with unexpected overtime ;D I’ll keep that in mind!
My favourite cake to make is Simplicity Chocolate Cake (link here, strangely enough from ABC Adelaide! http://www.abc.net.au/local/recipes/2006/07/14/1686791.htm). It’s quick and it always, always tastes good. Plus you can make it bulk, freeze or make strange shaped birthday cakes with it.
Happy birthday lovely lady! I firmly believe that cake has no calories at all times. Which is why I am wearing pajamas right now instead of the jeans I haven’t been able to fit into for several years… but that’s another story. I’ve already linked you to my cake recipe on Twitter, but here it is again. This cake is so, so damned good. Juicy and chocolatey, but you pour the sugar/coffee syrup over it and it’s all dense and sticky and moist. Am drooling on my keyboard now. http://cathrynhein.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/friday-feast-with-sarah-mayberry/
Happy Birthday!!
My favourite cake is Black Forest. Love the chocolate, love the cream, love the cherries… it’s delicious on the lips but murder on the hips!
Happy birthday, Kaetrin!
I’m with Sarah. How can anything possibly be bad about cake? The only way it makes us fat is with happiness! As for a favourite…hmm…I kind of like them all. But if I must choose then I have a Christmas cake recipe that appeared in a Vogue Entertaining magazine years ago that is DIVINE. It’s the richest, densest fruitcake imaginable and just beautiful. Perfect for any time of the year and keeps wonderfully. It has no calories either. In fact, it is most nutritious thanks to all that fruit.
Bugger. Now I really want some…
Happy birthday again, Kaetrin! 🙂
As for the cake… OMG CAAAAAAAKE. http://media.giphy.com/media/pHlCkndRRmvjG/giphy.gif
I know this is weird but my favourite cake is now this triple layered durian cake that my dad got me for my birthday last year. I initially thought it was bizarre, but since I like durian (you know, the tropical spiky hedgehog fruit that stinks), and I like cake, surely the combination would work for me. And it did. And it does.
Happy birthday – my favourite cake at the moment is a coconut and chocolate with coffee cream topping.
