Favourites of 2016

I’ll be posted my favourites out of the DA-reviewed books over there and my favourite audiobooks reviewed at AudioGals will be going up over there – but this is where I mention the books I read and loved and reviewed here. Most of my favourites this year were reviewed at Dear Author or AudioGals as it happens but there were two books which I reviewed only here and which stood out to me so much that they deserved to get a special mention.

hot pink cover with author's name and title appearing as cutouts showing a girl's face laughing (I think - she could be screaming but I think she's laughing).

red/orange/yellow space explosions, with "excerpts" from files for title, author names and blurb by Marie Lu

Completely different books but both brilliant – and also: Australian for extra bonus points. You can read my review of Summer Skin here and of Illuminae here.

I wish you all the joy of the festive season. However you celebrate, if you celebrate, stay safe and stay strong. Catch you in 2017.

Favourite audiobooks from 2015

I mentioned in this post that the audiobooks listed at AudioGals were my favourite listens where my reviews were posted there and I planned to do a post here to make up my top ten. My sense of fairness was pricked by leaving out the excellent romance audios I listened to from my own library or provided direct to me by publishers/authors. In no particular order, the other top five are:

Noble Satyr audio

Noble Satyr by Lucinda Brant, narrated by Alex Wyndham. My list could not have been complete without at least one Brant title. Alex Wyndham was my “find” of 2015 in terms of excellent new narrators. His work here is stellar and the story is excellent too. Georgian romances featuring rakish and mysteriously enigmatic heroes are my catnip. Continue reading

Kaetrin’s 2013 Favourites

Up until 16 December, I read a total of 251 books for the year.  Of those, 145 were books published in 2013.  Last year, my 2012/all-reading ratio was a lot lower.  Good for the newly released books, not so good for the books languishing on Mr. TBR.

Out of all the books I read, only 27 were rated 5 stars, but 144 were rated 4 stars.  I’d have to say that’s a pretty good reading year.

Of the books released in 2013, my favourites were (click on the pics to see my reviews):

Fantasy/Urban Fantasy/Paranormal elements

New Adult/YA

5 star reads/listens for 2012 (Part the Second)

These books couldn’t be included in my “Best of 2012” post because they were all published before 2012.  But I read/listened to them this year and they were worth every single one of those rare 5 stars.  So here’s my list.  Sorry I can’t think of a sexy title.

Best of 2012 from 2012

I’m coming up to my third blogoversary but I’ve not done a “best of” list* before.  I thought it might be fun to do it this year.   Also, I’m a sheep.  Baaa.*Because I got my data from my Goodreads catalogue, I’m going to talk in terms of star ratings here, even though it’s not usually how I review here on the blog.
Books released this year represented about 1/3 of my reading/listening so that made it a bit of a challenge for my best of listThis year, I read/listened to 87 books published in 2012* but only 4 of those were 5 star reads.  Still, there are some very excellent 4 star reads on my list.*Audiobooks first published as audiobooks in 2012 count.  So there.

In total, I rated 21 books 5 stars this year but 17 of them were published before 2012.
