Musings on Romance

Kaetrin’s Musings – Now on Facebook!

So, I’ve been blogging a bit more lately and I decided I wanted to do more stuff.  Lots of my favourite blogs have a Facebook page and I decided to make one too.  Also, learning about how to make things like blogs and FB pages is kind of fun even though there was a bit of swearing involved last night… ahem. Moving on!
My page is a bit Nigel-no-friends at present, only 2 people “like” me (and one of them is me! LOLOLOL).  I’d promise you a puppy if you “like” my page but I don’t think puppies do well with Australia Post so maybe I’ll just say, if you are on FB and are so inclined, please head here to like my page and make me feel the love and acclaim of Romance Stadium.

Fantasy to the (Hyper) Extreme?

aka a kind of review and a rambling justification for why I like Reaper’s Property by Joanna Wylde.
As I start this post, I’m about halfway through the book but I wanted to start getting my thoughts down before they scattered.  Reaper’s Property was recommended to me by DA’s Jane.  She said it was “hardcore” and “intense and emotional” and she clearly loved it.  Her recommendation was not without caveats however – she noted:  “Anyway, warning warning warning. Know that you are getting an over the top sexist parade of MC full of violence and wrongdoing when you read this book”.
There has been comparison with Kristen Ashley’s Motorcycle Club (MC) books – I have 1 or 2 on my TBR but haven’t read any yet – I keep hearing about engaging stories but also poor grammar and sloppy/no editing and I’m kind of torn about taking the plunge in actually reading them because the latter things mean a lot to me.   This book, a little shorter than a KA book and better edited, lured me because of the promise of engagement and curiosity did the rest.  So I bought it.
I don’t usually like my heroes to be less than heroic.  Why then am I enjoying this book, where the hero is named “Horse” (yes, it’s after the size of his dick) and is a violent criminal?  It is this question I’m trying to answer and so my rambles begin.

Virtual Advent Tour

When my husband and I first married (December 5th 1998) we didn’t have tons of money for a fancy Christmas tree and decorations – especially not so soon after the wedding.  But we thought it would be fun if we bought one really nice Christmas decoration every year, so that eventually, we would be able to get rid of all the cheap decorations and have a lovely set of decorations which would one day maybe become something of a family heirloom to pass to any children we would have.
The first year, the special decoration was our Christmas angel for the top of the tree.

Some years there have been more than one fancy decoration. Some years they haven’t been quite as special as others.

This year, was a special one for my son (technically it is his, as I gave it to him but it will be on our tree for a while yet I suppose).

Not all of our decorations are beautiful and perfect.  Having a 9 year old means that we also have some hand made decorations from school art projects but they all make a home on our tree.

It’s a tree filled with Christmas memories and that’s what makes it special to us.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

A New Alliance

Brie from Romance Around the Corner put her wishlist together of what she wants to see in romance next year.  You should read it; it’s a very good post and I agree with all of her list.  The comments turned to important topics (as they do) and pretty soon, there was demand (from me) for a button.  Mandi from Smexy Books took up the challenge and rallied to the call and lookie here:

ETA: I misread the tweet. Brie made the button. Credit where credit is due and all that.  😀

So, who will join me in this new Alliance?
