I’m over at Dear Author with a review of Fangs for the Memories by Molly Harper. Written for fans, this novella tells the story of how Andrea finally accepted Dick’s invitation for a first date.

I’m over at AudioGals with a review of The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire by Molly Harper, narrated by Amanda Ronconi. Fun and light-hearted, even if someone is trying to kill Gigi for most of the book. (Slightly irrelevant aside: the title baffled me a little – Nik wasn’t on the rebound.)

Why I read it: This was one from my own TBL. The new release is out ~~soon~~ now and I wanted to catch up on the series.

What it’s about: (from Goodreads) On the run from her former employer, Tess knows that she’s vulnerable on her own amongst the Elder Races. That’s why she decides to audition to become the human attendant of a powerful Vampyre of the Nightkind demesne. But while her position affords her the safety she seeks, her protector turns out to be more than she bargained for.

What worked for me (and what didn’t): The Elder Races books are some of the few paranormal romances I still read. I’ve gone off a lot of PNR compared to my reading diet a few years ago. I particularly enjoy them on audio because Sophie Eastlake is a favourite narrator of mine. Here, I think the format left me with a happier experience than would have been the case if I had read the book.

Why I read it: I was gifted this one.

What it’s about: (from Goodreads) In “True Colors”

In “Natural Evil”
Claudia Hunter is on a road trip through the Nevada desert when she sees the body of a dog on the side of the highway. Pulling over to investigate, she quickly determines that the enormous animal is clinging to life. While working to save him with the help of the local vet, Claudia realizes there’s something about the creature that seems “more.” Other. “Wyr.” Which makes this case of animal cruelty attempted murder.
Too injured to shape shift, Luis Alvaraz is reluctant to tell Claudia what he knows about his attack, afraid it will only make her a target. But the sheriff is corrupt, and his attackers know Luis is alive and vulnerable. To make matters worse, a sandstorm is sweeping into town, and if they’re going to survive the night, Luis will have to place all his trust in Claudia.

What worked for me (and what didn’t): I’ve actually bought all the novellas in digital format but apart from the latest trio of novellas featuring Dragos, Pia and Peanut, I haven’t actually read any of them. Bad Kaetrin. I found it easier to slip the novellas into my listening and, as Sophie Eastlake is a favourite narrator, I knew they’d be worthwhile. I’m really happy that all the novellas are available on audio and are produced with such high quality. Continue reading

Sirius and I join forces at Dear Author today to review Flight of Magpies by KJ Charles. Tensions between Stephen’s duty to his friends and the justiciary, and Crane’s desire to leave England’s stodgy rules behind come to a head and there is a surprising development with the Magpie Lord’s signet ring.
